Cocina Puerto Rico: Recipes from My Abuela's Kitchen to Yours

by Mia Castro × Chef Amy Rivera Nassar & Chef Yun Fuentes

A family recipe carries more than ingredients. Mia Castro’s debut cookbook, Cocina Puerto Rico: Recipes from My Abuela’s Kitchen to Yours, was built from hours-long FaceTime calls with her Abuela Sara in San Juan, collecting the dishes that define her family’s homeland. Join Mia at a brand-new Philadelphia space for a celebration of Puerto Rican cuisine with three beloved chefs, as part of Sisterly Love Collective’s 2026 Cookbooks & Convos festival.

Mia Castro trained under José Andrés, Thomas Keller, and Wolfgang Puck, and has since competed on Chopped, Hell’s Kitchen, and Beat Bobby Flay, where she beat Bobby Flay.

For one night only, Mia will be joined by three Philadelphia chefs bringing their own family recipes to the table. Yun Fuentes is chef/owner of Bolo, the Rittenhouse Latin American restaurant and James Beard semifinalist kitchen named for his grandfather, whose recipes still shape the menu. Amy Rivera Nassar built Amy’s Pastelillos around her mother Iris’s recipes, turning a tribute to her Hunting Park upbringing into a Fishtown storefront. Jaymi Carnazzi is a food writer whose family recipe won a spot on the menu at Recipe Philly, the new Center City restaurant built entirely from family dishes submitted by home cooks across the Philadelphia region, interpreted by Recipe Philly’s Chef Andy Revella.

Tickets are $155 per person and include a 7:30pm seating for a four-course dinner, a curated drink, a signed copy of Cocina Puerto Rico, and gratuity. Books for the evening are provided by Julia de Burgos Bookstore at Taller Puertorriqueño, Philadelphia’s only bilingual English/Spanish bookstore, carrying titles exclusively by Puerto Rican, Latine, and Latin American authors. Taller Puertorriqueño is a nonprofit cultural center, and every purchase supports its education programs and free community events.
